It’s been a busy series of events surrounding my children’s book, Danny Dog. In the six-plus weeks since the book’s release, we’ve attended numerous events all over San Diego County. We’ve even had a trip to Seattle thrown in for good measure. All the while, the reception we’ve received – and Danny, in particular – has been tremendous.
This past week was our busiest yet. Included were two school visits, a library visit, and a private home party. Each event was unique in its own way. But, the prevailing theme was everyone’s total and unabashed admiration for Danny.
The first school visit was to Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach. The 4th Grade class loved meeting Danny (see photo below) and hearing his story. And, they asked so many thoughtful questions about the book and Danny.
The week’s activities concluded with a special December Nights author visit to Del Sur Elementary School. What a great evening it turned out to be! The students enthusiastically greeted us when we entered the school lobby. They immediately descended upon our rescue dog, Danny, who was only too happy to oblige.
As we walked through the lobby, we noticed a collection of images on the wall. The students of the lower grades had drawn their rendition of the Danny Dog book cover. What a thrill it was to witness that!
After a wonderful introduction by students, Alex and Jake, I read Danny Dog to those in attendance. Then, after answering a number of questions from the children and parents, the book signing concluded the evening’s activities.
It was certainly a memorable evening and capped off a terrific week of events. Many thanks to the wonderful folks at Del Sur Elementary for coordinating such a great evening.
