We recently (Sunday, August 24) marked our first anniversary with Danny. Yes, it’s been more than a year since we adopted our wonderful rescue dog. Time sure flies when you’re having fun!
Not long after we got him, Sheryl and I began discussing the idea of writing a children’s book about him. I began to conduct some research into Danny’s background and talked with the pet rescue organization that looked after him while he was without a home. I quickly came to the conclusion that Danny’s story had to be told.
I began working on a first draft of the story. That led to numerous revisions. Then, I contacted a children’s book editor and, after a couple of sessions, the story began to take shape.
Next, it was time to hire an illustrator. After an extensive search, I found one in England who seemed to capture Danny’s look and demeanor perfectly.
Just recently, after many months of work and collaboration, the files for the book were sent to the printer. It really has been a fun experience. Exasperating at times, but nonetheless, a tremendous experience. To see the book evolve has been incredible.
Events surrounding the release of the book are being coordinated right now, including a grand opening launch party in San Diego on Oct. 26 and a book signing in Seattle at the headquarters of the pet rescue organization that cared for Danny.
A portion of the profit from the book will be donated to animal and human welfare organizations to help these nonprofits continue their dedicated and tireless work in the communities they serve.
Yes, it’s been an eventful journey and we look forward to seeing you at a book signing soon. Stay tuned for more details.
