Last weekend, we took a trip down to Balboa Park. We hadn’t taken Danny for an outing in a little while and he was overdue. With the local beach (one of Danny’s favorite spots) essentially closed to canine traffic until Labor Day, the options have been limited. And, trips to Petco for his Canine Good Citizen Training classes don’t exactly count as outings.
Besides, we had an ulterior motive for taking Danny to Balboa Park. We had heard that the park was holding a pet photo contest. The catch was that all photos had to be taken at a location in the park.
So, we packed up Danny, along with our camera, and headed over to the park last Sunday.
We took him to several popular spots in the park and tried to get him to hold steady for the money shot. He didn’t always cooperate.
After about an hour of mostly futile attempts, we sufficiently tired him out as we headed toward the lily pond. Once we got there, we gave him a couple of treats and some water as he lounged by the edge of the pond.
Now, it was time to capture a few shots. Surprisingly, he wasn’t fidgety at all. And, we were able to get a few decent shots.
When we arrived home, I downloaded the photos and one of the shots by the lily pond looked pretty good. Good enough to enter in the contest.
A couple days later, I visited the contest site to view the list of finalists. I scrolled down the list and – what do you know – Danny made the cut.
That’s right, Danny’s one of 25 finalists! We were thrilled!
Online voting continues until Wednesday, August 13. So, be sure to go on online and vote for Danny! His photo is entitled, Danny Rescue Dog at Balboa Park Lily Pond.
